The Last Dunes Girl is the second and sequel (to The Sword of Tecumseh, pub. 2019) in the Logan Wells mystery series. The story takes place in Prairie County, Indiana in 1990.Logan Wells, a former investigator with the county prosecutor's office, has a chance encounter with Bill Hanlen, the long serving and recently retired county sheriff. Hanlen tells Logan that he received a cryptic note purporting to be from one of the 'Dunes Girls', three young women who disappeared from the Indiana Dunes over 20 years ago. Hanlen, who worked on that unsolved case, wants to find out who sent him the note and why, and requests Logan's help. Logan is at first reluctant to assist him, skeptical that the 20-year-old case can be solved, and there had been unfortunate consequences for both men in the events that occurred in The Sword of Tecumseh. Logan ultimately agrees to help Hanlen, figuring he has nothing to lose, and he is intrigued by the case. Their investigation takes them from various places in Indiana to Florida, where, during a climactic and violent encounter, they uncover the mystery of the Dunes Girls' disappearance.

Autorenporträt
After a long career in public finance, Mark took early retirement to pursue his dream of performing Barber's Adagio for Strings at Carnegie Hall. Mark soon realized that since he didn't play violin, indeed, had never taken a lesson, achieving this dream wasn't likely. Not one to be discouraged, Mark turned to his second dream, writing a novel, which was the first Logan Wells' mystery, The Sword of Tecumseh (pub. 2019). He recently finished a second book in the series: The Last Dunes Girl.Mark grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he was a Dean's List student, and a member of the cross-country and track teams. (He set a couple of school records in track.) Mark now lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife Carol (yes, Carol Carroll) and dog Lucy. He still runs an occasional road race. Speaking of running and dreams denied and fulfilled, Mark recently won his age group in the Popcorn Panic Run, a popular 5-mile race held each September in Valparaiso.
