Access to Mountain Top by motor vehicle improved throughout the 20th century. The construction of Route 309 and Interstates 80 and 81 paved the way for commercial and residential development, including the Crestwood Industrial Park. Today, Mountain Top is a growing suburban community of nearly 17,000 people who enjoy and support its parks, churches, businesses, and schools.

Working with local residents and organizations, the Mountain Top Historical Society has gathered facts and photographs documenting the growth of the community over the past 150 years. Joseph Kubic, a founding member and vice president of the MTHS, has written six books about area history, including special topics like local railroads, summer resorts, and businesses. Darlene Miller-Lanning has coauthored two books on Scranton history for Arcadia Publishing.
