Then the author puts the reader in the mind of the protagonist by utilizing the second perspective to tell the reader what to think, how to feel, or what to do. As each chapter/memory comes to an end, the protagonist tells the reader what happened to them in their own words, the first perspective. The author intended for the reader to see it, feel it, then hear about it. Author Monica Minogue writes about multiple addictions in a raw and unfiltered manner. The story is written for a mature audience as topics of substance abuse, sexual abuse, emotional and physical abuse are all exposed. The story also discusses topics of child abandonment, child abuse and rape. Although "A Broken Wing - Origins of an Addiction" is a work of fiction, the entire story is inspired by true events.
