The stories of Lope and Monroy are both based on the fact of Fuente Ovejuna presenting clear divergences. The Fuente Ovejuna by Lope is not in the common line of the theater of this author. He wants, more than Monroy, to interpret on the scene the part of the history of Spain that surrounds the rebellion of Fuente Ovejuna as a general environment. Although a few years later, Monroy's work, imagined in front of an Andalusian public and above all Sevillian, it seems that he does not take into account in such a rigorous way the historical case of the background of the work, or due to indifference towards Lope's chronological criteria or because he is already known to him. That is why it places the plot nucleus more on the noble characters than on the collective case of the town that gives it its name. Lope's comedy being shorter, it is more complex in this sense.
