The world's many religions have articles of faith that must be observed; these articles include the belief in a superior being, a faith in the afterlife, and a philosophy toward the value of life and existence. But is there more to faith than the simple belief in a god? Is there more than simply living a good life? Is there more than faith? In Notunol: A Study of Christism, Mac R. Cabanilla sets forth that religious faith must encompass more than just a set of beliefs. Christism is a unified concept that ties together mankind, the Holy Spirit, and the nature of the universe. This concept is the Nature of the Universe, Nature of Life (Notunol), and Cabanilla presents this as a study of the very nature of life, god and faith. In this view of the universe, existence is shown to be the combination of physical reality and the immaterial forces, both nature of Gods. It is this combination presents the true nature and object of faith. Cabanilla even shows that study of mathematics cannot reveal the universal truth and faith. This exhaustive study of Christism reveals that there is much more to faith than simply believing in a religious doctrine. In Christism, man must come to understand the interrelationships between the material, the immaterial, and the spiritual; only then can man truly understand the nature of the universe and the nature of life, Notunol.
