Deep in the night at the Bronze Age site of Mycenae, archaeologist Margaret Benson is warned by a tiny clay figurine she unearthed, "We are real girls. We are out of time." Can this Archaeologist believe and do as the figurine directs in time to prevent a cataclysmic destruction such as ended Mycenae? Believe in time to save herself and the now 3200 year-old girls? Margaret Benson's professional and personal life is rich with friends many of whom rush to the Rescue: The owners of the Hotel Belle Helene; her Assistant Director, Allison; teams of Geologists and Anthropologists and Engineers and Archaeologists, all converge at the site. This diverse cast makes for a story that is as entertaining as it is archaeologically fact-filled. The Bronze Age Society cataclysmically, mysteriously, ended in 1185 B.C., a Society far more advanced than ours today. Read: And The Stars Began To Fall

Autorenporträt
The world of wine and the Ampelography of ancient grapes, the world of Archaeology and mysteries hidden in history, all converge in my books, screen-and-stage-plays, and short stories.Below I write about the writing of my three books.1. After years of research and work in Greece with archaeologists and pondering the hidden histories in Homer, my latest novel is the result:Excavations by modern day Archaeologist at the Bronze Age site of Mycenae, Margaret Benson, unearth an ancient curse and set off its prophesied return. Can Margaret's own destruction and that of Mycenae be averted? Whoever or whatever forces¿earthly or extra planetary¿destroyed Nestor's advanced society in the Pelopoponnesos in 1185 B.C., are now set to return in 2021 A.D. Will it happen again? And The Stars Began To Fall. 2. After decades of research deep among wine bottles in truly ancient cellars in Burgundy, in Champagne, and in Greece, after studying the ampelography of ancient grapevines with several of the truly knowledgeable, and of studying how the vines traveled ever West from East with Dionysos, and after immersing myself again in the writings of Julius Caesar, I wrote the history of wine beginning at the end of the last Ice Age in 9000 B.C., starting in the mountains of NW China. From there the vine mutated as it moved to different soils and different conditions in the Middle East, Egypt, Krete, the Peloponnesos, Italy and finally to Gaul at the time of Caesar's Wars. Julius Caesar Invented Champagne is a larger story than the vineyards of Champagne, tracing the long history of the mutating vine all the way to 51 B.C. Told in a Yellow-Submarine-ish story it is a travelogue journey with many characters, both historic and modern, and wine experts, both real and imaginary.3. After my friend Julia Child died in 2004, I realized I had boxes filled with letters, post cards and faxes from her, and a wealth of stories from our years of friendship, of our adventures and of her stories to me about her life. I did not want them to perish, so I wrote Julia Child, a Memoire of Friendship. Since then, quite recently, there have been many TV series about Julia. All of them have nuggets of the real Julia. And all of them diverge from the truth to add whatever a producer deems necessary for TV spice. My book is just about our friendship. It shows insights into the real Julia, the off-camera Julia, an out of the kitchen Julia. There is not one recipe in my little memoire, but lots of never seen before photos and lots of good stories.Madeleine de Jean, 2022.
