The title of the book project is "Transactional Leadership Styles of Heads of the Departments". Transactional leadership begins with established goals or directives of their organization and motivates employees to pursue these directives by clarifying role and task requirements through rewards, if standards are not met. The present study aimed at finding out the nature of the transactional leadership style of the heads of the departments of colleges in Kolkata. It also aimed at finding out the relationship between emotional intelligence and ways of coping of the heads of the departments. It is a correlational study. The data were collected extensively from heads of the departments of different colleges under University of Calcutta and data were processed for statistical analysis. Results indicated that male heads of the departments were more transactional than female heads of the departments and there were correlations among transactional leadership style, emotional intelligence and ways of coping.

Madhabi Sarkar is a guest lecturer of psychology in Vidyasagar College. She is pursuing her PhD in Organizational Behaviors from Applied Psychology Dept. of University of Calcutta. She completed her MSc in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from University of Calcutta.
