Distance Education is a field of Education which holds immense potential for educating large populaces. The author feels that this potential has not been adequately tapped, especially in India where spreading the outreach of education is a challenge. Being a science-educator and realizing the tremendous scope for propagating environmental science (which is of relevance to a large number of people irrespective of age, gender or community), the author has taken up this research on effectiveness of distance education for teaching and learning of environmental science. A self-instructional package on selected/relevant topics of Environmental Science (EVS)has been prepared as part of the research, which is appended to the book.
