Middle level colleges play a strategic role in the development of human resources. The development challeges of the Kenya Vision 2030 and the need to remain competitive in the changed business environment demands emphasis on quality training. Human resource skills are a treasure which provide the expertise to achieve a competitive edge. This study aimed at examining the effect of the use of various competitive strategies on the quality of training in private middle level colleges in Eldoret Town Kenya. The study was based on the generic strategies of Porter (1980) of cost leadership, differentiation and focus. Cost related variables were found to have a significant effect on the quality of training offered by a given college. Differentiation and focused strategies were found not to have a major effect on the quality of training offered. For quality training to be realized therefore, private middle level colleges should adopt the cost leadership strategies.
