This book was prepared within the framework of the project entitled "Assessment and Management of Mangrove Forests in Egypt for Sustainable Utilization and Development", funded by International Tropical Timber Organization in Japan (ITTO) and executed by Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALK) in collaboration with Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs (MSEA). The main aim of the present book is to collect, analyze and document baseline environmental information about the Egyptian mangrove (Avicennia marina and Rhizophora mucronata) sites along the Red Sea coast. Twenty eight mangrove sites containing a total of 525 ha have been identified along the Egyptian Red Sea coast, a further refinement of the area estimates of these sites is recommended. Moreover, the present book includes evaluation of the soil conditions of mangrove sites along the Red Sea coast and South Sinai, assessment the soil conditions due to the rehabilitation activities in Wadi Gimal and determination of the growth performance of the two mangrove species Avicennia marina and Rhizophora mucronata grown in pure and mixed populations in relation to the variation in soil characteristics.
