Autorenporträt
Maha Griffin is a self-taught writer with a natural talent of finding ways to express herself through the art of poetry. She grew up in the urban area of central San Diego, where she learned the hardships of poverty. Maha's mother raised her, along with her three brothers, as a single parent. Her father left her at the age of nine and passed away when Maha was seventeen. A poet who began writing at the age of ten, Maha submitted her early work during her teen years to Poetry.com and received two editor's choice awards in 2003 and 2008. Her writing style was influenced by rap music, which motivated her to write urban poetry. In 2013 she graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor of science degree in child development and eventually returned to the university to complete her master of social work. Maha currently works as an adoption social worker. Poetry of the Heart: A Journey through Emotions is her first book of poetry.
