Palm pollen extract (PPE) has excellent protective activities in mice infected with coccidial infections. It could diminish faecal parasitic output and the number of intracellular parasitic stages. Also, PPE reduces the induced weight loss and diminishes the intestinal injury score and apoptotic changes of infected animals. In addition, both metabolic status and antioxidant system are obviously enhanced after treatment of infected animals with PPE. It is highly recommended to use extracts of palm pollen alone as feed additive to fight intestinal coccidial infections and its associated pathological effects.
