Effective project management (PM) has been recognised to be essential in achieving project success as well as improved productivity. Despite the increased attention given to project management methodologies (PMM), such as PMBOK, APMBOK and PRINCE2 that have been used in developed countries, like the UK; the construction industry in Nigeria is seen to be lagging behind in adapting the use of these methodologies in the delivery of projects. Several authors have identified that the traditional project management method is still in use despite the shortcomings associated with the method. This research, therefore, aims at investigating the relevance of the use of PMM guides in improving performance in the Nigerian construction industry as well as how these methodologies can be implemented considering the nature and characteristics of this industry.
