The study was carried out to evaluate the concentration and distribution of natural and anthropogenic radioactive materials in soils, river sediments, agricultural products, water, building and ceramic materials and heavy mineral beach sands from Chittagong and Cox's Bazar region of Bangladesh. Objective of the work was to acquire a detailed knowledge of the distribution of radionuclide concentrations and to search for correlation between these concentrations and the relevant parameters, and to understand the environmental behaviour of these radionuclides in terrestrial ecosystem. The result of the study will provide background data of natural and artificial radioactive isotopes and environmental pollution naturally occurring radionuclides. Secondly, NORM are trace elements, which play important roles in the fields of environmental chemistry, geochemistry, hydrology, astronomy and meteorology. In accomplishing the work I have received support from my colleagues of Radioactivity Testing and Monitoring Laboratory,Chittagong and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. Thanks to Dr. Saroj Kanti Singh Hazari, Professor of Chemistry, University of Chittagong for his guidance and suggestion.
