With the attacks against the United States of America on 9/11, the face of modern foreign and security policy not only of the US, but also of the rest of the developed world, changed dramatically. Modern media heavily covers transnational terroristic incidents, like on 9/11 or the recent events in France, where terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdo. This media coverage promotes the notion that terrorists are misanthropic monsters with a desire for killing. A broad range of scholars, including psychologists, sociologists, security specialists and even economists, have attempted to look beyond this notion with the hope of explaining terrorism and ultimately finding a cure for this problem.
