Mr. Colby has a Bachelors degree in biology and attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry. He started his professional carrier with Abbott Laboratories and worked in Research and Development, marketing and sales in the United States and Japan. Colby has built several healthcare related businesses and has held the position of President of Rusch, Edwards Lifescience Finance and Colby Group International Inc. He also holds several Board of Directors positions with companies such as Cardinal Healthcare-Japan. He is the chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Healthcare Committee and has served as the Chair of the Diagnostics and Medical Devise Committee as well. Colby was responsible for the importation and implementation of the College of American Pathologist (CAP) standard in Japanese laboratories and has developed software for the development of ISO standardization in clinical labs and E-learning applications for physician continuing education programs. Colby lectures and has written extensively on Japanese healthcare issues. His reports include documents on areas as diverse as bone marrow transplants, molecular biology, advanced imaging systems, lung, colon and stomach cancer's, reproductive biology and regulatory strategies. He was the co-author of the critically acclaimed book, Negotiating the Gray Maze, the business of medicine in Japan. His second book, The Japan Healthcare Debate, Diverse Perspectives is his latest work. Mr. Colby lives between Tokyo and the Japanese countryside where he researches issues relating to healthcare in Japan and does management consulting work for Japanese and Western healthcare companies with a special emphasis on cross-cultural business communication, cross border contract facilitation, arbitration and the development and implementation of business plans. Mr. Colby first came to Japan in 1978 to study Judo and currently holds a 4th degree black belt in that sport.
