Martin Mellett was born in 1973, in Coventry, West Midlands. He graduated in 1999 from Coventry University with a degree in European Business Studies (spending one year at IUT de Saint-Étienne as part of the Erasmus programme) and went on to get a Certificate of Education (CertEd) at the University of Warwick, subsequently teaching adults English, Mathematics and Digital Skills. He is the youngest of three siblings, son of a motor mechanic and carer, and author of two novellas (The North Star and Bob and the Universe). His love of Chinese martial arts meant he became a master of T'ai Chi. He also regularly attends Extinction Rebellion meetings and demos.
