During the last few years, the English language has found its place in the primary education in the Czech Republic. The English language is usually introduced to primary school pupils in the third grade. However, some schools start with teaching English in the first year. Most textbooks for young learners base their listening tests on a principle that the pupils can both read and write. This project maps possible ways and means of testing listening in young learners` classrooms. The theoretical background of this work shows the ways of testing listening of young learners and sets testing listening into a wider area of assessment. This project also provides a lesson plan including a listening test as well as the experiences of the English teachers with testing listening in young learners' classrooms. The book should become a helpful tool especially for beginning language teachers who need guidance on this specific field of testing.
