In South Africa nearly 3/4 of the poor live in rural areas of the country and the majority of them are dependant on agriculture for their livelihoods. Agribusinesses in the rural areas provide to many households a sustainable livelihood as well as creating employment and providing food security. Examining the factors that will influence the establishment of a viable nursery in Elim, a rural area abundant with natural fynbos species, can aid in identifying and addressing the elements that are required to contribute to economically viable agribusinesses and provision to poor households.
