Michael R. Garcia was born in the San Luis Valley and attended Conejos Elementary School until the fourth grade and then transferred to the Antonito schools and graduated from Antonito High School in 1971. He then enlisted in the US Navy where he was trained to work on data processing equipment and operate large scale computers.On completion of his military service he attended Adams State College and then moved to Denver and attended Metropolitan State College. He started his technical career with the City and County of Denver as a computer operator. He was accepted into the Computer Programmer Trainee program. After his training and a budget cut, he transferred to Denver Department of Social Services where he worked as an information systems analyst.In 1983 an opening for a Programmer Analyst became available at Lowry Air Force Base working on the Air Force Pay system. From 1983 until 2012 he worked on the Military Pay System as a software engineer and systems analyst. He moved to Indianapolis in 2009 and retired November 2012 as Manager of Software Engineering for the Defense Joint Military Pay System (DJMS.) Upon retiring Michael and his wife Susanne moved to Pueblo West, CO in 2013.
