This book focuses on the continued increase in HIV infection among adolescents, despite their knowledge about the disease. Physical development and sexuality in both male and female adolescents is described. Adolescent development is further examined in terms of cognitive development and social cognition. Amongst other theories of behavioural change, the Information, Motivation and Behavioural Skills (IMB) model was identified in this book as having a greater potential than other theories in empowering adolescents to change their behaviours. However, the author argues that the IMB model on its own is inadequate in addressing HIV risk behavior amongst adolescents. Furthermore, it is suggested that socio cultural factors be considered in formulating effective HIV/AIDs intervention strategies for adolescents.
