Diphtheria is an acute infectious disease caused by toxigenic strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It is Characterized by sore throat, low grade fever, and an adherent membrane on the tonsils, pharynx, and nasal cavity. Diphtheria affects people of all ages and both sexes. It primarily affects unimmunized children. Disease Spread by direct physical contact or breathing the aerosolized secretions of infected individuals. Diphtheria-Pertusis-Tetanus (DPT) vaccine is available for prevention.
