Harley and his friend Arthur Davidson. The two friends drew up plans for a small engine with a displacement of 7.07 cubic inches (116 cc) and four-inch (102 mm) flywheels. When done, they found that the engine did not fulfill the purpose they were looking for and started working on better models with higher displacements.
