An attempt has been made in this Book to find out whether the dependency between the farmers of any two consecutive generations regarding educational improvement and occupational shifting is prevailed and to what extents the farmers are being mobilised from their paternal positions of education and occupation in the agrarian sector of West Bengal. The extents of mobility in respect of occupation and educational levels from one generation to another are measured by the newly defined three statistics. Role of nos. of sons in this socio-economic transformation in the farming community of the rural Bengal is also being examined. For this study a sample survey has been conducted by taking randomly chosen 1200 farmers in selected 4 districts viz., Cooch Behar, Bankura, Nadia and Midnapore of West Bengal. In each selected district, the method of three stage random sampling with equal probability had been followed.
