This book provides an explanation about surveillance systems design concepts, as well as it addresses and explains the concepts, mechanisms, and modelling of the design of a new motorway surveillance system using modified Wireless Local Area Network. The new design enables motorway users to access image data taken by wireless cameras placed along the motorway. This has the potential to provide improved safety awareness by allowing motorway users to know the actual or imminent traffic and road conditions freely. On the other hand this book presents the design methodologies of a new localization protocol. This protocol is developed to effectively manage the operations of selecting, finding and requesting the desired cameras which are selected by vehicle drivers, without using GPS or any additional infrastructure. This protocol offers a new technique for node localization and image acquisition technique, which enables the motorway user to request data (images) from any camera withinthe motorway surveillance system.
