To meet this objective, production costs must be minimized while maximizing the mill throughput and without compromising the cement quality. Production costs are minimized by ensuring power consumption is at the minimum while good cement quality is ensured by achieving the required particle size distribution (PSD) as well as avoiding overgrinding. Retention time in cement grinding which is the time taken by material to attain the required particle size before it reaches the mill outlet, can be reduced by the use of a closed mill grinding circuit arrangement, where cement raw materials undergo a two-stage processing; grinding and classification/separation. This ensures that power consumption is reduced; mill throughput is increased as well as improving cement quality in terms of PSD.
