Urbanization is one of the most important indicative factors of economic growth and development of any country. Nevertheless, the developing countries are not getting the optimum level of agglomeration benefits from urbanization due to the absence of effective spatial development policies; conversely most of the cities and towns in the developing world are facing various challenges like traffic congestion, environmental pollutions, unplanned urban growth, widening the regional income disparity etc. This book is a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses of urbanization and spatial development between a developed and developing economy of two Asian countries. These analyses will be very helpful to those who are directly or indirectly involved in development policy planning and implementation especially in spatial/urban and regional development policies; and the professionals like urban and regional planners, development policy planners, spatial economists etc or anyonewho is interested in urbanization and spatial development in the contemporary world.
