The desire to have security in old age and preservation of family has become a basis upon which the people of Rano expressed a stronger preference for boys, than for girls. Must people would not practice contraception, if they do not achieve their preference, which in a way may become an impediment to the National policy on population for sustainable development.The books has captured how the rural Hausa community expressed their preference for either having a son or a daughter, with preference for boys taking higher lead, then preference for sex mix is expressed after achieving main sex preference. The book recommends inclusion of sex preference in the analysis of Nigerian Demographic Health Surveys, so as to capture actual fertility behaviour.
