NEIL T. GAVIN is Senior Lecturer in the School of Politics and Communication Studies, Liverpool University, UK, and formerly taught at York University and London School of Economics and Political Science. He was editor of The Economy, Media and Public Knowledge and co-editor of Britain Votes 1997.
