Guidance and Counseling creates a free conducive and relaxed atmosphere for interaction and decision making and, generally it has a great bearing to the learner's performance in the examinations. Properly discharged, counseling would minimize drop-outs especially of mature group learners who are mostly found in the extra-mural centres. Despite the dotted prevalence of guidance and counseling in the study centres which were destined to promote learning,that had not been realized.Dropout cases therefore necessitated the address of these afflictions and their remedies. This book therefore provided a new dimension of finding factors that affect the provision of guidance and counseling with particular areas in mind such as Nakuru and Nairobi Study Centres. Variables used included age, sex, academic qualification, professionalism, race, work, experience and attitude of learners. Resident lecturers, administrators and students were the main population targets. The book therefore recommended that academic and administrative staff should give much attention to guidance and counseling to learners if distance learning objectives are to be realized.
