Islam means submission to God, and a Muslim is one who has submitted to the will of God. At the center of the religion is an intense concentration on the unity of God and the separation between God and his creatures. No physical representation of God is allowed. There are no other gods. The duty of humanity is to profess the simple testimony: "There is no god but God (Allah), and Muhammad is his Prophet." Obedience to God's will rests on following the example of the Prophet in one's own life and faithfulness to the revelations collected into the most sacred text, the Qur'an. Islamic ethics is the ethical system formed by the teachings of the Qur'an and explained by the Prophet through action and words. This thesis aims to offer analytical study of Islamic ethics based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. The thesis also attempts to offer an introductory exposition on the conceptual framework and scope of Islamic ethics. To present the conceptual framework and scope of Islamic ethics, the Qur'anic terms and the Prophetic pronouncements related to the subject are exposed, and the opinions of the Muslim exegetes of the Qur'an as well as the opinions of Muslim jurists related to the subject are unveiled. The present thesis entitled Islamic Social Ethics and Response to Social Evils has been divided into six chapters.
