The book studies social realism in George Bernard Shaw's plays, and traces his influence on modern Egyptian drama with special reference to Numan Ashour's theater, which is primarily interested in presenting the social structure of Egyptian society before and after the 1952 Revolution. Both Shaw and Ashour use their plays as a medium for expressing their critique of society, which is dramatically presented through the portrayal of mouthpiece characters and the adoption of the Discussion Play technique.
