Thai Thai's Very Curly Tail is a happy story about a young girl, Katie, who is volunteering with her mother at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand. The sanctuary cared for elephants who were older, or who had been working too hard, or who had been hurt. Every morning, as volunteers, they prepared breakfast for the elephants. One morning Katie discovers a puppy with the elephant, Boon Mee, his tail curled tightly around her trunk. Feeding Boon Mee her favorite food-watermelon including the rinds-they separate the puppy from the trunk. Katie knew the puppy would go home with her, but first they had to visit the doggy doctor. "His tail may never straighten," the doggy doctor said. Katie didn't care. Soon she and her mother have to return home to the United States. A month later the puppy makes the 30 hour trip to join Katie across the world. His tail was as curly as it was at the sanctuary. "I'll call him Thai Thai," Katie said, "since he's from Thailand."Hinweis: Dieser Artikel kann nur an eine deutsche Lieferadresse ausgeliefert werden.

Autorenporträt
Nancy Jainchill is a psychologist and writer living in upstate New York: For years, I wanted to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary. Talking about it one evening with a friend, I decided to stop talking about it and do it. Within four months we were in Thailand after 30 hours of travel. Two days later we'd settled in at the Wildlife Friends Foundation of Thailand (WFFT) Elephant Refuge. Every morning I'd see Boon Mee, a 57 year old elephant whose name means Good Spirit or Virtue, in her enclosure. Evenings, I'd be in the dining area nearby and watch as she'd disappear into the darkness. Boon Mee was one of the 18 rescued elephants at the Refuge (there are more now). I didn't know what to expect when I signed up to volunteer, other than heat and humidity. Nor could I suspect that the essential lessons for me would be about patience and service. And I certainly didn't expect to come home with a puppy. Thai Thai was one of a litter dumped at the Sanctuary. This is his story and then some.
