In sharp, keenly observed stories, Nancy McKeever paints a tender portrait of her family from 1940s Pittsburgh to present-day Los Angeles, a family who refuses to be beaten down by the daily indignities of poverty, who are each other's hero when it counts, and who, despite each individual's unique struggles, are bound together by loyalty, generosity, humor, and a deep love. I read these stories with tears in my eyes and renewed hope in my heart for how goodness and perseverance can overcome the deepest scars

Autorenporträt
Nancy McKeever was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, into a large family, raised mostly solo by a hardworking mother and a father who split his time between his two families. Her family, facing all the challenges of being Black and poor in the 1940s, managed to carve out a home filled with love and joy. Due to early academic promise, Nancy was awarded a nursing scholarship and was able to obtain her nursing certificate. She had a long and successful career as a psychiatric nurse before retiring in 2013. Once retired, she returned to her early love of writing. She moved to Los Angeles in 1977 with her two daughters, Stacey and Nancy Jean, and currently lives with her partner, Patty Antin.
