Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease. It affects 10% of world population, 90% of whom are women. In other words, a hundred million women worlwide experience the problem of osteoporosis. It is anticipated that the number of people suffering from osteoporosis will double in the next 50 years. The most serious complications of osteoporosis are fractures that may significantly shorten the life of patients. Diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis are very simple but they are not always available for each patient. What can we do? Prevention is by far the most important part of osteoporosis treatment. This book is an attempt to point the problem of osteoporosis out to all women especially to women in developing countries. The aim is to clarify the problem of osteoporosis, to help people recognise it and raise awareness about the importance of taking preventive actions in early childhood and adolescence. Only by recognising the problem on time we can ensure prevention and refer patients for further diagnostics.
