The rising rate of obesity is a major public health concern in the world.During pregnancy obesity have been associated with significant morbidity and mortality of both mother and fetus.A strong relationship between maternal prepregnancy BMI , weight gain and birth weight has been demonstrated consistently.Several studies have reported a clear association between maternal overweight and adverse perinatal outcome.This piece of work is a prospective study to demonstrate the effect of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI & antenatal weight gain on fetomaternal outcome.The results found in this study, emphasizes the importance of good, timely care of pregnant women, whether they are underweight, normal weight or over weight.
