Most adults and children don't understand yet the true meaning of hero or heroism. Their understanding is not correct and imprecise in the form of false heroism, celebrity culture, and negative role models. There are only a few studies on the concept of heroism, even though heroes have a major psychological influence on the development of individual identity, especially children. Heroes serve as role models for moral and life values, goodness in the world, fighting spirit, and learning to be good citizens. Hero stories are able to educate and inspire others to create positive change by trying to match or exceed the qualities and actions (deeds) they admire about heroes.
Cultivating the soul and spirit of heroism in children not only can be done by visiting museums. Parents should invite their children to enter the past, to feel the struggle in life of the past, and broaden their horizons about what actually happened at that time and the conditions of people there. The most important thing to understand first is the real meaning of heroes based on theoretical concepts, one of which is the psychology of heroism. Therefore, the author developed a story book on hero characters entitled Domino Stories of Heroes to help children find and develop hero characters in themselves. The writer developed this story book based on the theories and the results of the latest social psychology research and developments regarding the concept of true heroes and heroism. The concept of the heroic story series written in this book is in accordance with the concept of child development: from the aspects of language, reasoning (thinking), moral values, and social emotional development of children from pre-school age to late childhood. These heroic stories are also written based on the latest psychological research and theory on heroism. In conclusion, hopefully this book is useful for children, parents at home, caregivers at Day Care centers, and teachers or educators who pay great attention to child development and psychology.
