Many groups of microorganisms like Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi have the ability of synthesizing antimicrobial agents. The top cultivable antimicrobial agent producers present in soil are the actinomycetes. In fact, Streptomyces species are the resource of 75% of commercially produced and medically useful antibiotics. For this reasons to explore new antimicrobial metabolites,in total, 14 strains were isolated which showed various degrees of inhibition. Among them six strains which showed considerable inhibition against their test organisms were studied in details and their identification was attempted and provisionally identified as Steptomyces fulvoviridis (9), Steptomyces bobili (34), Steptomyces galtieri (35),Steptomyces albplpngus (37), Steptomyces viridaris (40), and Micromonospora carbonacae. Among the above-mentioned isolates only two isolates (isolate No. 9 and 37) were found to produce active agents significantly in broth culture. The activity of crude antibiotic of two isolates (isolate No. 9 and 37) were tested against 5 bacterial human pathogens.
