Buffalo is one of the most important dairy animals concentrated largely in tropical and subtropical countries. They are the mainstay of dairy industry, especially in Asia and form the frail rural economy in many developing countries across the world. Buffalo alone contributes approximately 96.8% of the total milk of the dairy industry in Asia and approximately 12.8 % of the total world milk production inspite of being only 11.6% of the total cattle population in the world. Buffalo has been traditionally regarded as a poor breeder due to its poor fertility in the majority of conditions under which they are raised. Reproductive efficiency is the primary factor affecting productivity and is hampered in female buffalo by inherent late maturity, poor oestrus expression in summer, distinct seasonal reproductive patterns and prolonged intercalving interval. To improve fertility in buffaloes, an adequate knowledge about the reproductive behaviour is necessary.Keeping in view of all these the present study was aimed with the following objectives to study the gross, histological and histochemical details of ovary were studied and discussed
