Nevertheless, guai imagery survived the tremendous social, political and cultural changes and was widely employed by the Communist Party from 1949 to 1978. Dr. Sijing Chen gained a doctor degree from Birmingham City University. Her research reassesses the significance of traditional mythical imageries in the twentieth-century China, and discusses the transformation of their roles in social, political, religious context.
