This research work entitled "An Outline of Communicative Language Teaching in Bangladesh" is an empirical study of the realities of teaching English at secondary level in Bangladesh. The work particularly focuses on the current practices of communicative language teaching at secondary schools located in different areas of the Sylhet division of Bangladesh. It tries to highlight the causes of failure in implementing the principles and techniques of CLT in the real learning situation. The research concludes with an utmost attempt to find out some probable solutions to overcome the existing problems. It differs from other theoretical studies in this field in the sense that here the author s main concern was to judge how the theory is put in to practice and that s why learners and teachers of the practical class rooms are interviewed which ultimately leads to finding out the gap and solution. Finally, it is also hoped that the recommendations of this study can be equally useful in case of teaching English in other non-English Countries. It may open new doors of further researches in the relevant field.
