Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is the main dairy animal of India. It contributes about half of the total milk production in the country, whereas its population is half of total cattle. Out of total buffaloes a large proportion is non-descript having low milk production. Therefore there is urgent need to upgrade the non-descript low producing buffaloes for better performance. The superior quality male germplasm is the key factor for genetic up gradation for higher milk production. The evaluation of semen quality must be done before putting bull into breeding program. The emerging techniques i.e. Infrared thermography, Ultrasonography, scrotal circumference, testicular consistency, body condition scoring etc. can be of great support in breeding soundness evaluation of bulls for quality semen production at semen station.
