Saundra Yancy McGuire, PhD is an internationally acclaimed learning specialist who has been teaching students strategies for improving their learning for more than fifty years. She was named a 2022 Louisiana Legend by Louisiana Public Broadcasting for her numerous national awards. In 2007, she was recognized for excellence in mentoring with a Presidential Award presented in a White House Oval Office Ceremony. She is also an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2011), the American Chemical Society (2010), and the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations (2012). In 2013 she retired as Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University, and in 2017 she was inducted into the LSU College of Science Hall of Distinction. She is now Professor Emerita of Chemistry and Director Emerita of the LSU Center for Academic Success, which was recognized by the National College Learning Center Association as the nation's most outstanding learning center in 2004 and is currently designated as a national Learning Centerof Excellence. Saundra has presented her widely acclaimed learning strategies workshops at more than 500 institutions in forty-seven states and thirteen countries. She received her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, her Master's degree from Cornell University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she received the Chancellor's Citation for Exceptional Professional Promise. She is married to Physics Professor Emeritus Stephen C. McGuire, and they are the parents of Dr. Carla McGuire Davis and Dr. Stephanie McGuire and the doting grandparents of Joshua, Ruth, Daniel, and Joseph Davis.
