This booklet reviewed the most important steps of field work and the methods used in collecting materials of popular traditions, especially verbal ones, from their oral sources, with a focus on collecting oral poetry, or what is called Nabati poetry. The process of field collection is not limited to collecting texts only, but it extends beyond that to other issues that should be given the researcher's attention. Folklore researchers have recently begun to direct their attention to the lives of narrators and informants and to the social environment and cultural conditions from which folklore material emerges.
