In addition, microparticles play an important role in the development of controlled- or prolonged-release dosage forms, as well as in developing drug delivery systems that improve the bioavailability of conventional drugs and minimize their side effects. The pharmaceutical applications of microparticles entail different routes of administration including oral, pulmonary, nasal, ocular and parenteral delivery.
