Central Business District (CBD) has evolved from the market square into the focal point of every city. Signifying the city's precise statues of social, economic, political and cultural development overtime. Tamale like any other city in the world has a Central Business District which is coupled with a lot challenges, ranging from a dichotomy of activities within the Central Business District, congestion from both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and a gradual erosion of the cultural and sense of place due to old and outworn buildings. Various attempts however, have been made by the Metropolitan Assembly and the Land Commission to curb this problem. This research sort to look at a redevelopment approach which will best curb some of the major challenges confronting the Central business district geared toward an urban renaissance in the urban fabric.To evolve an urban design master plan that will serve as a guide for redevelopment within the metropolis especially in the Central Business District. A survey research method was used where case studies, observations and interviews are some of the ways used in examining the issues in the Central Business District of the Tamale Metropolis.
