A Mississippi black girl, born and raised, Zarah's looks defy expectations about how a black woman should look. Despite her appearance, with two black parents, she is black, proud, and bold. A college student and host of her own radio show, she broadcasts, far and wide, she's "the blackest black chick you could ever meet." Viewing all whites the way her parents viewed them when they were growing up in the 1960s Deep South, Zarah's racial identity is "black first." But, wanting to be a magazine journalist, in Mississippi, means one thing. She'll have to work for a white-owned company. Even though her lifelong dream is to start her own magazine, she has much to learn. So. With several big decisions to make, she chooses to go after getting needed work experience. Then she meets the handsome, non-conformist owner of Wilson Publishing Inc. A man best described as "radical." A man who seems markedly different from what she expected. Her love for magazine journalism leads to an internship at his company, and, soon, internship success leads to a job offer and the possibility of a future at WPI. Ultimately, it all leads to blossoming love. But, falling for the last man on Earth she ever expected to fall for creates in her life all kinds of questions and problems she has no idea how to deal with. What looks like the best thing that ever happened to her, some days, also looks like the worst. Silver Waves of Turbulence takes readers on an exciting, fast-moving three-year excursion through a young woman's life as her beliefs collide with long-held ideas about racial identity, truth, history, and love. In an unexpected story, Silver questions the concept of racial identity and "passing." It asks whether it is possible to change many of society's long-held beliefs, and if love can survive, thrive, and flourish when it's forced to battle wave after wave of turbulence.
Autorenporträt
So. How did I get here, to the place where I have now written ten of ten novels I plan to write in a color-coded collection? Well, first I changed my career. I went from working as a university professor of writing for mass communications and marketing to working as a corporate writer or marketing or communications manager or director. After working for a short time as managing editor of a national magazine, I figured it was now or never, and I began to study novel writing on my own. For years, I read, studied, and learned as much as I could before I found a way to commit to writing my first novel. Still feeling loads of fear and doubt about doing it, I finally took the plunge. I got started, and eventually, it all came together. I have now completed ten of the novels I have planned for a collection I call "Living in Color." I created my color-coded collection while giving a lot of thought to my intended audience. I created these books for readers who I believe are a lot like me because they enjoy reading southern-style, southern-told stories that are filled with romance, grit, and surprise. Every book in my numbered collection presents a different aspect of the distinct struggles of American blacks, including our points of view, our challenges, and our trials, and there's always plenty of romance, mystery, relationship drama, and suspense. Many of my characters create and run their own successful businesses. Many of my characters fall in love, get married, and have children. I want to always use my novels to help change negative mindsets when it comes to things such as wealth and marriage. Therefore, my books feature different characters facing different impediments to their life journeys and adventures while they are engaged in careers, wealth-building, romance, marriage, and fighting generational curses. In addition, sometimes, because of the world we live in, my character's stories include drama that is connected to the color of the skin God placed them in.
