Gram negative uropathogens were screened for ESBL, MBL, AmpC beta lactamases production and further antibacterial activity of Clove, Neem, Black Pepper were tested against uropathogens. Clove (100 mg/ml) showed best antibacterial activity against Proteus (19 mm) and least against P. aeruginosa (14 mm). Gram negative uropathogens were screened for ESBL, MBL, AmpC beta lactamases production and further antibacterial activity of Clove, Neem, Black Pepper were tested against uropathogens. Clove (100 mg/ml) showed best antibacterial activity against Proteus (19 mm) and least against P. aeruginosa (14 mm). Neem (100 mg/ml) showed best antibacterial activity against A. baumannii (15 mm) and least against P. aeruginosa (12 mm). Black pepper (100 mg/ml) showed best antibacterial activity against A. baumannii (16 mm) and least against E. coli (12 mm). Although, all three plant s ethanolic-extracts were effective at tested concentrations against all beta lactamase and non beta lactamase-producing uropathogens but clove was found to be more anti-bacterial than black pepper and neem. Therefore, present studies concluded that medicinal plants contain bioactive-compounds which have potential anti-bacterial activity against a wide range of bacterial pathogens. Further, well-designed in vivo clinical trials are needed for isolation, identification and characterization of newer bio molecules that can be formulated into antibacterial drugs.
