Autorenporträt
Samuel Sobel received a B.A. degree from Yeshiva University and an M.A. degree from Columbia University. Ordained by the Hebrew Union College--Jewish Institute of Religion, and the first Jewish chaplain ever to be appointed to the regular U.S. Navy, he served as Staff Chaplain of the Military Sea Transportation Service, Atlantic Area. In 1955 he received the Four Chaplains Award for exemplifying the highest ideals of service to God and Country, as was demonstrated by the four chaplains who died heroically in the sinking of the Troopship Dorchester.
