This book presents the method that estimates MIMO channel characteristics analytically using the 3-D ray tracing propagation model. Discrete spatial correlations are calculated between sub-channels by considering phase differences of propagation paths. Using these results, an upper bound of the mean MIMO channel capacity is estimated by Jensen's inequality. This analysis method is a deterministic method that does not approach the problem statistically through measurements nor through Monte-Carlo simulations, and as such it offers high efficiency in terms of time and cost. In addition, based on electromagnetic theory, it can analyze quantitatively the parameters that can affect the channel capacity - electric properties of buildings and pattern, polarization, structure, and mutual coupling of antennas, and soon. Therefore, it is expected to be helpful for the development of antenna structures suitable for MIMO systems.
